let's do this

With my trusted colleague, Susan Youngsteadt, we developed a hiqh quality, action-oriented CEU opportunity for clinicians and laypersons seeking a deeper, more functional understanding and skills for grievers.

Every day, whether you realize it not, you interact with grievers. We've created a CEU opportunity to give you actionable, practical education and information about how best to support them.

Megan Devine notes “If we want to care for one another better, we have to re-humanize grief. We have to understand it as a natural, normal process, rather than something to be shunned, rushed or maligned.”

Every client is or will be at some point a griever, and as social workers, we have an ethical obligation to know and be able to employ effective and appropriate strategies for supporting grievers. This program provides psycho-education regarding grief, and the differences between loss, mourning and bereavement, and will support social workers in being able to identify grief and grieving.

Participants will be able to:
  • Describe the differences between grief, bereavement, and mourning.

  • Define micro, mezzo, and macro systems, and identify at least one example of how grief experiences impact each of the systems a person exists within. For example, the symptom of brain fog associated with grief can impact an interpersonal relationship with a partner (micro system).

  • Explain and identify symptoms of grief from a holistic perspective (mind, body, and spirit/relationship).

  • Identify at least one ethical consideration for grief work.

  • Implement at least 2 specific skills for supporting clients who are grieving, and create a treatment plan appropriate for grievers.
